Palazzo Pubblico and Torre del Mangia, view from Orto de'Pecci. L’Orto de’Pecci is in the former psychiatric hospital area in Siena and is a green oasis just underneath Piazza del Campo, with a fabulous view of the Torre del Mangia.

Ristaurante pizzeria All'Orto de'Pecci

A good place to eat is in the garden behind the Piazza del Mercato, at the back of the Piazza del Campo. The Pecci Garden was built between 1326 and 1420, and is one of the most well preserved green spaces of medieval Siena. Today, the walls enclose green areas between Porta Romana and Porta Pipsini.

A dirt path crosses the garden where a co-operative society has maintained it as it always was. To reach this cooperative garden, walk to Piazza del Mercato, then take the stairs leading down to the field of green below. Take the small street which bears to the right of Via Del Sole. A short walk down this road and past the gate, is pleasant and filled with the aroma of lavendar, rosemary and plants of the Tuscan countryside. The view of the Torre del Mangia and of Piazza del Mercato is fabulous from this peaceful spot.

Home to some of the world’s best art museums, Tuscany is an art lover’s nirvana.
From Podere Santa Pia you can choose many roads to reach the towns of southern Tuscany. Siena is within an hour drive, but we suggest a panoramic tour of the valley’s in between, so that the trip becomes a unique experience among the colors and atmospheres of the Tuscan landscape.
Explore the medieval hillside villages on your way to Siena, marvel at settlements that date back to Etruscan times, try some Pecorino cheese in the stately Renaissance village of Pienza, and some Brunello di Montalcino in Montalcino, where the refined beauty of the squares and churches blends perfectly with the ancient traditions of its wines.

Hidden secrets in Tuscany | Podere Santa Pia

Podere Santa Pia is situated in a hilly and unspoilt land, about one hour drive from Siena, surrounded by woods, olive groves and vineyards, where the Monte Amiata hills slope to the Maremma plain and the sea can be seen on the horizon..
