Located in central Italy along the Tyrrhenian coast, Tuscany is home to some of the world's most notable wine regions. Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti Classico, Nobile di Montepulciano, Montecucco, Morellino di Scansano… are primarily made with Sangiovese grape whereas the Vernaccia grape is the basis of the white Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
In 2014 Toscana Wine Architecture was born, a network of wineries noted for their impressive architectural elements and production technologies. These wineries included Rocca di Frassinello in Gavorrano. Rocca di Frassinello winery is a joint venture between Castellare di Castellina and Domaines Barons de Rothschild-Château Lafite. Paolo Panerai and Barone Eric de Rothschild specifically selected the hill in front of the town of Giuncarico, in the municipality of Gavorrano, as the ideal place to cultivate vineyards[4].
La Maremma Toscana | La Cantina Rocca di Frassinello, Gavorrano, progettata da Renzo Piano
Rocca di Frassinello was designed by Renzo Piano in 2001 and built between 2003 and 2007. The outline of the structure is intended to recall the appearance of Maremma fortresses, complete with tower, perched on hilltops; the colour of the building is red. There is an underground room where the barriques are housed: a large amphitheatre on whose steps the barrels are placed.[2]

The estate covers 500 hectares, of which 83 are planted to vine. Vineyards of Sangioveto (a specific Sangiovese clone selected at Castellare that represents 50% of total hectares), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Vermentino give birth to wines that combine the best of Italy and France [4].
