Tuscany in spring

Podere Santa Pia is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the treasures of Tuscany, close to the Tyrrhenian coast but set in an oasis of green and abundant nature. In spring the temperatures are perfect for sight seeing anywhere in Tuscany.
The towns of Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano are all important provincial capitals in the area and within easy driving distance. Pienza has some wonderful views over the orchid valley below, so be sure to climb up from the Piazza Dante Alighieri to the via Santa Caterina at the edge of the town and marvel at the wonderful panorama.

Pienza is a wonderful medieval village placed in the artistic, natural and cultural park of the Val d'Orcia, which, due to its geometry and breathtaking views, is World Heritage Site since 2004. Pienza has some wonderful views over the orchid valley below, so be sure to climb up from the Piazza Dante Alighieri to the via Santa Caterina at the edge of the town and marvel at the wonderful panorama.

Easter, Easter Monday (Pasquetta), April 25 (liberation day), May 1st and June 2 (Festa della Repubblica) are all bank holidays. On these days, most shops and services will be closed, but many major tourist attractions are usually open.

The Abbey of Sant'Antimo abbey is one of Tuscany's most beautiful examples of Romanesque architecture and was one of the most powerful monasteries around Siena in the medieval ages. Sant'Antimo abbey is only 30 kms away from Podere Santa Pia.

Whilst in a tranquil position, Podere Santa Pia is just a stone's throw away from many activities and interesting places to visit. Montalcino and the Abbey of Sant'Antimo are within easy reach.
The drive along the winding country road leading to the monastery is an incredible pleasure for your eyes: Castel Porrona, vineyards, olive groves, green hills, and isolated farmhouses tucked in the countryside, famous wine estates such as Castello Banfi, Castello di Argiano and Poggio alle Mura, and the beautiful hilltop town of Sant'Angelo in Colle. Finally the Abbey, built in travertine stone, stands in perfect isolation on a plain among secular olive groves and lovely wheat fields.
