On August 7 the Edding Quartet plays the Mozart String Quintet in the Chiesa di San Francesco in Asciano and on August 11 at the Chiesa Santo Stefano in Castelmuzio, Beethoven's string quartet opus 132.
The Huelgas Ensemble and Paul Van Nevel present on Tuesday 8 August om 22u. an evening concert with music by Cipriano de Rore.

Russian pianist Alexei Lubimov performs Schubert and Chopin in the Chiesa di San Francesco in Asciano.

Masterclass

For the first time, there is also a maste class under the inspirational leadership of Philippe Herreweghe and Stefan Hertmans. Three universities, VUB, ULB, UGent and Tomorrow's Legacy program at EY Belgium combine the forces and bring together some of their students to immerse themselves in a culture bath in Asciano for 6 days.
Philippe Herreweghe, Artistic Director of the Festival, introduces students to classical music and talks about the importance of music culture in European history. Stefan Hertmans talks to them about culture as an essential part of European identity and as a possible solution to the challenges facing Europe in full transition today. In this context, different perspectives and accentuations are laid down, with occasional interventions by Paul Scheffer (Professor of European Studies at Tilburg University) or Francesco Illy (European entrepreneur with a clear vision of art within undertaking).
Stefan Hertmans (1951) was born in Ghent (B). He was professor of art criticism, aesthetics and text analysis at University College Ghent (Ph. D. on Hölderlin and Greek Tragedy) till 2010, and author of six novels and several volumes of essays on literature, music and philosophy. 2006 his collected poems so far were published ( Muziek voor de Overtocht, Gedichten 1975 – 2005).
Paul Scheffer (Nijmegen, 1954) is a Dutch author, he was professor at the Universiteit van Amsterdam between 2003 and 2011,[1] currently he is professor of European studies at Tilburg University. In 2000, he wrote an essay Het multiculturele drama (approximate translation: "The multicultural disaster") which was very influential in shaping the debate on multiculturalism and immigration in the Netherlands.
Francesco Illy, born in Trieste in 1953, has a family name that is world famous thanks to the quality of its coffee products. He is part of the third generation of Illys, responsible for building a coffee empire. Francesco Illy fell in love with Montalcino in 1984 when as a nature photographer the landscape 'illuminated him immensely' (rephrasing Giuseppe Ungaretti). In 1997, after a 10-year search, Illy finally bought a home on 55 hectares of land in Casanovo dell'Abate, Montalcino, known as Podere le Ripi and turned it into a biodynamic Brunello vineyard. Later the Illy family also purchased the Mastrojanni estate.
